Our History
Still a privately held company, OSI was founded in 1992 by a group of innovators with a vision to create a company dedicated to delivering true open systems products and quality client service to the utility marketplace.
Since then, OSI has become a clear innovative leader in the field of utility automation. OSI has been an innovator in the large-scale utility automation industry, bringing total platform and hardware independence to an industry plagued by proprietary systems and single-source platform dependence. Since then, OSI has been a trend setter and has pushed the technological envelope in the industry. OSI has been the first to offer:
- A modular and open architecture (monarch) on UNIX in 1994
- A total Windows-based automation platform for large-scale operations in 1996
- A total IP-based interface for communications to field devices in 1996
- A geographically distributed communications architecture in 1997
- A Web-based user interface in 1998
- Total RDBMS independence and support for multiple RDBMSs in 1999
- Total operating system independence and support for all prominent operating systems in 1999
- Support for the Linux operating system in 2002
- A Linux-based Secure Remote Terminal Unit in 2004
- A Graphical User Interface architecture based on Microsoft's .NET technology in 2006
