OSI is Awarded a Contract by Austin Energy for a New ERCOT Nodal Market Generation Management System

Open Systems International, Inc. (OSI) has been awarded a contract by Austin Energy of Austin, Texas, for supply of a comprehensive new Generation Management System (GMS). OSI's monarch™ GMS platform will give Austin Energy a flexible, reliable and secure system to provide Real-time generation resource monitoring, dispatch and control services for its assets in the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) region and participation in the ERCOT Nodal Market operations.

Austin Energy, which owns more than 2,600 MW of generation assets serving customers in Texas capital city and surrounding counties, has created the top performing renewable energy program in the nation and the nations first and largest green building program. As an innovative and progressive organization, Austin Energy chose to team with OSI, a leading provider of open and innovative automation and market solutions, to provide its next-generation GMS technology. OSI's new GMS system replaces services provided by a legacy ABB Ranger Energy Management System.

The proposed system is based on OSI's monarch distributed open architecture and includes Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition, Web-based Graphical User Interface, Automatic Generation Control and Dispatch, Historical Information System, Calculation and Trending subsystem, Secure ICCP, DNP and Modbus communications, NERC monitoring and a Backup Control Center, as well as interfaces with ERCOT and with Austin Energy's Market Operating and settlement Systems.
