OSI is Awarded a new SCADA Contract by St. Charles Municipal Electric Utility of Illinois

Open Systems International, Inc. (OSI) has been awarded a contract by the Municipal Electric Utility of St. Charles, Illinois, for a new comprehensive SCADA system.

The City of St. Charles Municipal Electric Utility (SCMEU) is a municipal distribution utility near Chicago, Illinois, with a peak load of 130 MW. The main motivation for this project has been the overall automation initiative at the utility and substation expansion. OSI's state-of-the-art monarch lite™ system will replace the company's present aging SCADA system.

The proposed system is based on OSI's monarch distributed open architecture and includes Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition, Web-based Graphical User Interface, Historical Information System, Calculation and Trending subsystem, Open Database Connectivity, Data Disturbance Collection, OLE for Process Control and DNP communications.

The City of St. Charles Municipal Electric Utility (www.ci.st-charles.il.us), which began in 1892, has grown to over 130 Mega Watts of peak power usage serving over 15,000 residential and commercial customers. The substations receive power from its suppliers at 34,500 volts and transform it to the City's primary distribution voltage of 12,470 volts for distribution to step-down transformers supplying customer meters.
