OSI Releases OSIRIS™ X3, a Scalable and Larger Version of its Secure Linux-based RTU

Open Systems International, Inc. (OSI) is pleased to announce the release of OSIRIS™ X3 (OSI Remote Information System). It is an easily scalable and larger version of OSI's OSIRIS Linux-based Remote Terminal Unit (RTU) that supports an efficient rack-mount configuration.

OSIRIS X3 has extended I/O expansion capability and is based on the original OSIRIS main processor, motherboard and expansion module (OSIRIS XM™). With 48 digital inputs (24 digital outputs and 24 DC analog inputs), the X3 triples the point count of an OSIRIS unit.

OSIRIS X3 is standardized and consolidated in a 19 3U configuration designed to fit inside existing substation hardware panels, allowing customers to replace aging legacy RTUs with more efficient OSIRIS X3 units, saving a significant amount of time, space and cost.

OSIRIS X3 effectively transfers the versatility, security and power of OSIRIS to additional points and the intelligent structural design offers convenience in set-up, monitoring and maintenance. The communication ports and terminal block plugs are easily available for wiring from the rear while switches, status lights and the maintenance port can be found on the face of the unit for user-friendly access.

OSIRIS X3 interfaces include: 2 10/100BaseTX Ethernet ports, 2 RS232/RS485 serial ports for communication, and a serial maintenance port.

Designed for the electric, gas, communications and water industries, the OSIRIS product line has been developed to address the security, network connectivity and general feature limitations of legacy RTUs. All units are configurable as a slave or master device and can be used as a data concentrator, secure substation gateway or a secure and hardened communications router. OSIRIS X3 supports SSL, encryption, built-in security measures and a variety of serial and IP-based protocols including Modbus, DNP3 and IEC.

"Seamless communication, monitoring, security and interoperability are the cornerstones of effective measurement and control systems. Our OSIRIS products deliver innovation and versatility in addition to unsurpassed functionality and now, with the release of the OSIRIS X3, the power to support a high number of points for utilities of all sizes in any industry. OSIRIS serves as a secure alternative to traditional RTUs," said Brian Rasefske, OSIs Vice President of Engineering & Development.
