Blue Ridge Mountain EMC Selects OSI Technology for Distribution SCADA

Open Systems International, Inc. (OSI) has been awarded a contract by Blue Ridge Mountain EMC (BRMEMC) to provide a new and modern Distribution SCADA Master System based on OSI's monarch™ (Multi-platform Open Network ARCHitecture) platform.

Headquartered in Young Harris, Georgia, BRMEMC is a non-profit, member-owned Rural Electric Cooperative, distributing power from the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) across a 1,150 square-mile service territory that includes three counties in northern Georgia and two counties in western North Carolina. BRMEMC owns and maintains over 5,800 miles of electric distribution lines and more than 32 miles of transmission lines.

Seeking to enhance and modernize their infrastructure, BRMEMC has elected to replace a legacy Telegyr system with a state-of-the-art new Distribution SCADA system based on OSI's monarch platform. BRMEMC's new system includes OSI's next-generation, .NET based Graphical User Interface (GUI); SCADA platform; Advanced Alarm Management System; Real-time and Historical Trending; Communications Front-end Processor; Historical Information System and Data Archiving; and Calculation & Scripting Subsystem software products, along with the MultiSpeak interoperable interface between monarch and other corporate applications. This system was delivered in record time and has been commissioned.

"OSI welcomes BRMEMC to our user family. Our flexible technology is a great fit for BRMEMC's distribution management initiatives and should provide the fastest Return on Investment to BRMEMC," said Adam Wortz, Director of Solutions Engineering at OSI.

"We are excited to have gone live with our OSI system and are extremely happy to be on a stable system. OSI's software has an intense number of options; allowing us to match our previous environment and grow into new features like monitoring network equipment, trending, email notifications, etc. We had a flawless transition and an easy learning curve," said Dwayne Long, Director of Information Systems at Blue Ridge Mountain EMC.

BRMEMC (www.brmemc.com) was initially created in 1937 to provide dependable electric service at a reasonable price within the five counties of its western North Carolina and northern Georgia service area.
