OSI Technology Selected for Smart Grid Demonstration Project by Clarke Electric Cooperative

Open Systems International, Inc. (OSI) has been awarded a contract by the Clarke Electric Cooperative (CEC) of Iowa to supply a state-of-the-art new SCADA master system as part of its participation in the Cooperative Research Network's Smart Grid Demonstration Project (SGDP), supported by the U.S. Department of Energy.

The SGDP is a program intended to demonstrate the costs and benefits of technology upgrades for electric cooperatives and their members. In 2010, the Cooperative Research Network (CRN), the research arm of the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA), received a $33.9 million matching grant from the DOE to study the benefits of an array of new technologies for more than 700,000 consumers in 12 states. CEC is one of several NRECA members taking part in this study and as part of its participation has chosen to implement a new SCADA master system based on OSI's monarch™ technology.

CEC's new OSI system is set to include the advanced functionality of OSI's next-generation, .NET based Graphical User Interface (GUI); Remote Console GUI; Advanced Alarm Management System; Real-time and Historical Trending; Communications Front-end Processor using DNP serial and IP; Historical Information System and Data Archiving; and Calculation & Scripting Subsystem software products, with monarch interfaces to MultiSpeak and ODBC.

CEC (www.cecnet.net) was founded in 1939 and currently serves a 2,000 square-mile territory in South Central Iowa, including portions of the eight counties of Clarke, Decatur, Lucas, Madison, Ringgold, Union, Warren and Wayne. CEC's basic philosophy is to provide the best possible service at the lowest cost, consistent with sound economics and good management. CEC is a member of the Central Iowa Power Cooperative (CIPCO), a generation and transmission cooperative that supplies all of CEC's bulk power requirements.
