Consumers Energy Selects OSI's Technology for Its New Energy Management System

Open Systems International, Inc. (OSI) has been awarded a comprehensive contract by Consumers Energy (CE) of Jackson, Michigan for delivery of CE's next generation Energy Management System (EMS).

CE, one of the nation's largest combined electric and natural gas utilities providing electric and natural gas service to more than 6 million of Michigan's 9.5 million residents, needed a next generation Energy Management System which not only supports large control center and network operations across multiple control centers, but also supports a seamless disaster recovery strategy and the latest mandated Cyber Security measures. OSI's monarch™ EMS system replaces a legacy system.

CE's motivation for this new project was the implementation of a more modern and secure operations control system based on an open system architecture, facilitating systems expansions, upgrades of hardware and software and a lower recurring maintenance cost.

The OSI monarch distributed open architecture and the proposed OSI project implementation strategy will include Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition, Automatic Generation Control and Dispatch (AGC), Transmission Network Analysis, Operator Training Simulator, Secure ICCP communications, interfaces with Midwest ISO and various enterprise systems including a corporate information/data warehouse.

"We are extremely excited about having CE join our family of users. CE's decision to choose OSI for this critical project is a continued affirmation of our superior technology, customer service, customer focus and commitment to the utility marketplace. We look forward to a very successful project and a long term partnership with CE," said Bahman Hoveida, President and CEO of OSI.
