Sydney Trains of Australia Selects OSI Technology for New SCADA System

Open Systems International, Inc. (OSI) was selected by Sydney Trains to supply a new SCADA system based on OSI's state-of-the-art monarch™ (Multi-platform Open Network ARCHitecture) platform.

Sydney Trains operates all suburban passenger rail services throughout the Sydney central business district (CBD) and suburban area. Sydney Trains monitors and controls the High Voltage (132kV, 66kV, 33kV, 2kV AC) electrical distribution networks and the 1500 VDC electrical traction network that serves more than 178 stations and 1 million customers each weekday. Sydney Trains wants a mission critical SCADA system that will allow it to monitor and control its Electrical Network from a continuously manned centralized location with the main purpose of managing the electricity supply for train operation systems. The new system will enable growth and integration of future advanced grid management applications.

Sydney Trains' new SCADA system includes OSI's next-generation, .NET based Graphical User Interface (GUI) and Situational Awareness, Remote User GUI, Communications Front-End Processor, Real-Time Calculation and Scripting Subsystem, Advanced Alarm Management System, Dynamic Tabular Display Subsystem, Data Engineering and Maintenance Subsystem, Open Database Connectivity Interface, Simple Network Management Protocol Interface, and CHRONUS™, OSI's next-generation historian supported by big data technology for massive time series data collection and data mining.

Sydney Trains' Project Manager, Geoff Harris said "Sydney Trains is looking forward to establishing a productive partnership with OSI that will result in realising the benefits of a quality automation system to satisfy Sydney Trains immediate and strategic requirements. The business stakeholders are enthusiastic about the introduction of OSI's monarch and anticipate that the system will result in an improvement in safety and operational reliability by increasing visibility and flexibility for electrical network control, maintenance and planning functions."

"We are pleased to partner with Sydney Trains to implement a world-class control and monitoring system and be a part of their efficiency and reliability improvements initiatives to even better the outstanding record they have amongst worldwide rail operators. We look forward to a successful project delivered on time." Said Dan Candotti Senior Director of Utilities, Australia/New Zealand and Asia Pacific.

Sydney Trains (www.sydneytrains.info) is a New South Wales Government Agency constituted under the Transport Administration Act 1988, with responsibility for the provision of passenger rail services within New South Wales. Sydney Trains operates quick, frequent and reliable trains in the greater Sydney suburban area on 937km of electrified track.
