India Power Corporation Limited Selects OSI Technology for New Distribution SCADA System

Open Systems International, Inc. (OSI) has been awarded a contract by India Power Corporation Ltd. (IPCL) to supply a state-of-the-art Distribution SCADA (D-SCADA) system based on OSI's monarch™ (Multi-platform Open Network ARCHitecture) real-time automation and visualization platform. OSI's technology will modernize the JK Nagar Master Control Centre and its nine substations in Kolkata, West Bengal.

IPCL serves approximately 180,000 customers in a distribution area of more than 2,200 square kilometers. The utility operates a large fleet of wind-generation assets.

This new OSI D-SCADA system features the following functionality: OSI's Graphical User Interface, Communications Front-end Processor, Real-time and Historical Trending, Advanced Alarm Management System, Data Engineering and Maintenance Subsystem, ODBC interface, Historical Information System and Data Archiving, and Inter-control Center Communications Protocol. This implementation also includes plans for the future expansion of distribution management applications, which will improve the stability of IPCL's energy distribution infrastructure.

"IPCL and OSI share a vision for the power distribution grid in India," said OSI Vice President Bharath Kumar, managing director of international operations. "The implementation of OSI's monarch SCADA platform at IPCL contributes to the realization of this shared vision, and will deliver improved reliability, quality, and operational efficiency of the country's electricity distribution grid, positioning IPCL as an industry leader for years to come."

"We've chosen OSI as our preferred partner for the implementation of a Distribution SCADA system'part of our smart grid energy initiative—due to their state-of-the-art technology, which is agnostic to IT hardware, operating systems, and RDBMS; and their true 'evergreen' maintenance program focused on best practices in cyber security and NERC CIP compliance," said A.K. Goswami, director of IPCL.
