New Jersey's PSE&G Selects OSI's Distribution Management System and DERMS

Open Systems International, Inc. (OSI) has been awarded a contract by Public Service Electric and Gas (PSE&G) of New Jersey to expand their existing OSI operations technology (OT) platform with the addition of Distribution Management System (DMS) and Distributed Energy Resource Management System (DERMS) capabilities.

PSE&G's current D-SCADA system was implemented as the principal phase of a multi-phase vision inspired by the company's Energy Strong® program—a multi-year initiative to harden electric and gas infrastructure and make it better able to withstand the impacts of hurricanes and other severe weather events.

The D-SCADA phase included a network operating model that reflects the real-time topology and status of the PSE&G distribution system and provides visualization and situational awareness to the control center. The current phase adds DMS and DERMS applications to enhance distribution grid operations. DMS capabilities include Distribution Power Flow Analysis and Load Allocation. DERMS capabilities include DER Modeling and Visualization, DER Monitoring, DER Scheduling and Estimation, and DER-Enabled Applications.

"PSE&G is committed to being a leading utility in grid modernization," said John Latka, PSE&G's SVP of Electric & Gas Operations. "This project builds on our existing operations technology platform with OSI and adds key capabilities we need to actively manage and optimize the distribution grid of the future."

"OSI's monarch™ platform provides an ideal foundation for grid management," said Hormoz Kazemzadeh, OSI's Vice President of Distribution and Smart Grid. "PSE&G's expansion of the OSI platform with DMS and DERMS is an industry milestone with respect to scalability and functionality."
