Power System Operation Corporation Ltd. Selects OSI EMS Technology for India's National Load Dispatch Center

Open Systems International, Inc. (OSI), in collaboration with partner Chemtrols Industries Pvt. Ltd. (Chemtrols), has been selected by the Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (PGCIL) and its subsidiary company, Power System Operation Corporation Ltd. (POSOCO), to supply a state-of-the-art SCADA/Energy Management System based on OSI's monarch™ operations technology (OT) platform. This new OSI system will replace POSOCO's legacy Alstom system and will enable the utility to better manage the country's grid network, balance the system (generation matching consumption), and coordinate international interconnections with India's high-voltage network.

POSOCO is India's national transmission operator, meaning this new OSI system will effectively manage the transmission network for the entirety of India—among the largest grids in the world—ensuring it will operate in synchrony across an area of 3.2 million square kilometers to serve a population of 1.3 billion people. This is one of OSI's largest control center projects under execution to date in terms of power: It handles 320 GW installed power capacity.

POSOCO's monarch-based SCADA/EMS system will include OSI's advanced Graphical User Interface (GUI) and situational awareness, Advanced Alarm Management System, ICCP Interface with five regional load dispatch centers and three International load dispatch centers (Bhutan, Nepal, and Bangladesh), Advanced Transmission Network Analysis Applications, Market Operations Interfaces, Renewable Energy Management Center (REMC) Interface, Wide Area Monitoring System (WAMS) Interface, National Transmission Asset Management Center (NTAMC) Interface, Common Information Model Interface, and Equipment Outage Scheduler.

"POSOCO is seeking to implement an advanced SCADA/EMS system at their national load dispatch center in order to manage the complete Indian electrical grid and they have identified OSI's monarch platform as the ideal product to do so," said Bharath Kumar, managing director of OSI's international operations. "POSOCO and OSI share a commitment to the development and application of cutting-edge technology to provide reliable service to customers. This naturally led to the selection of OSI's technology by POSOCO, which is poised to flourish for years to come."
