Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. Selects OSI SCADA Technology for Renewable Energy Management Centers in India's Southern Region

Open Systems International, Inc. (OSI) and partner Chemtrols Industries Pvt. Ltd. (Chemtrols) have been awarded a contract by the Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL) to supply a state-of-the-art SCADA system—based on OSI's monarch™ operations technology (OT) platform—with forecasting capabilities to effectively manage India's Southern Regional Load Dispatch Center (SRLDC). SRLDC is the regional transmission operator for all of southern India and oversees the implementation of SCADA systems with forecasting capabilities at all of India's regional/state-level dispatch centers.

In addition to SRLDC, renewable energy management centers (REMCs) will also be established in the states of Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh. A key facet of the Indian Ministry of New and Renewable Energy's Green Energy Corridor initiative, these REMCs will help integrate renewable energy sources into the country's power grid, providing stability and security.

This new SCADA system will include OSI's advanced Graphical User Interface (GUI), Advanced Alarm Management System, Network Management System Interface, and historian applications. As this is a turnkey implementation, OSI will also be responsible for the installation of hardware at four control center locations, as well as the provision of a forecasting service provider and fiber telecommunication modules.

Powerful forecasting and scheduling tools provided by OSI's strategic partners will exchange static, historical, and real-time data with the monarch-based SCADA system. The combination of OSI and other cutting-edge technology partners will set a precedent for high-performance and capability for future renewable energy management centers in India and throughout the region.

"The renewable energy management center in India's southern region is a very strategic project to OSI and will serve as a showcase for OSI renewable technologies," said Bharath Kumar, managing director of OSI's international operations. "PGCIL will look to OSI's monarch-based SCADA system as a template for future renewable energy projects for years to come, and we very much look forward to the long-term partnership."
