Alliant Energy Selects OSI Technology for a New Advanced Distribution Management System to Expand its Enterprise OT Architecture

Open Systems International, Inc. (OSI) has been selected by Alliant Energy to supply a state-of-the-art Advanced Distribution Management System (ADMS) built on OSI's operational technology (OT) OpenXphere™ enterprise architecture. Alliant Energy has been using OSI technology for several years for various OT applications. This project expands the advanced distribution management capabilities of the OSI platform to create an industry-leading grid management system facilitating superior distribution operations and system reliability.

As part of their grid modernization plans, Alliant Energy foresaw a need to progressively operate and maintain the electric distribution system supported by an enterprise-level strategic initiative to improve reliability, safety, and operational efficiency; consolidate multiple systems for cost and maintenance efficiency; intelligently support and manage DER integration; and enable consumer grid and market access. As a trusted technology partner, Alliant Energy engaged OSI in a design and discovery phase to develop a long-term strategic roadmap for an enterprise OT platform that provides all distribution grid automation capabilities and fully leverages renewable resources to optimize distribution operations and system reliability. The OSI ADMS project is the cornerstone of Alliant Energy's strategic roadmap for grid modernization.

Built on OSI's secure real-time monarch™ platform, this comprehensive ADMS implementation will feature a full complement of Advanced Distribution Management applications, Switching Order Management, an Outage Management System, Mobile Crew Application, Distributed Energy Resource Management, Distribution Operator Training Simulator, and integration with other Alliant Energy enterprise applications.

"We have a progressive vision of the energy company of the future at Alliant Energy and a modern, full-function ADMS is a critical part of that vision," said JP Brummond, VP of Business Planning at Alliant Energy. "We chose OSI to be our technology partner to implement this very important project and help us transform our grid operations to better serve our customers in a future that will be different than today, with more local generation and information available."

"Alliant Energy has been a strategic partner of OSI for many years," said Bahman Hoveida, president and CEO of OSI. "The ADMS project at Alliant Energy is in line with our enterprise OpenXphere strategy to enable utilities to standardize on the OSI OT platform across the enterprise for all OT needs. We are very happy to expand our relationship with Alliant Energy on this strategic project."
