Omaha Public Power District Selects OSI Technology for a New Advanced Energy Management System

Open Systems International, Inc. (OSI) has been selected by Omaha Public Power District (OPPD) to supply a new Advanced Energy Management System (EMS) based on OSI's monarch™ operational technology (OT) platform. This will replace OPPD's legacy Siemens EMS, providing the utility with a flexible and robust platform to improve their transmission network operations.

In addition to OSI's modern and secure Transmission SCADA platform, this new system includes fully integrated EMS/transmission management applications for Real-time and Study Transmission Network Analysis. EMS applications include: State Estimation, Power Flow, Contingency Analysis, Common Information Model (CIM) Model Maintenance and Interfaces, Operator Training Simulator, Voltage Stability Analysis, Transaction Management System, Dynamic Network Visualizer, Phasor Management Unit Data Communications Processor, Outage Scheduler and Management. The system also includes Generation Management applications, including Automatic Generation Control and Dispatch, Production Costing, Economic Dispatch, Combined Cycle Units Modeling, Short-term Load Forecast, NERC Compliance Monitor, and market interfaces with SPP. The new EMS also includes OSI's next-generation, time series-based historian, CHRONUS™, for high-fidelity archival, replay, and data mining of real-time data.

Omaha Public Power District (www.oppd.com) is a publicly owned electric utility that has been in service since 1946. Today it serves 13 counties and more than 380,000 customers throughout a 5,000-square-mile service territory in eastern Nebraska. OPPD's power portfolio consists of more than 30 percent renewables, generating more than 800 MW of wind power. The utility also boasts more than 16,000 miles of transmission lines, a peak load of nearly 2,400 MW, and a total generation capacity of 2,700 MW.
