Powerlink Queensland Selects OSI Technology for a New Energy Management System

Open Systems International, Inc. (OSI) has been awarded a contract by Powerlink Queensland (Powerlink) to supply a state-of-the-art Energy Management System (EMS)—based on OSI's monarch™ operational technology (OT) platform—to support its vision for next-generation network operations (NGNO). This will replace Powerlink's legacy system, providing the utility with a modern, advanced platform that delivers comprehensive functionalities for efficient and secure operation of an increasingly complex transmission network.

In addition to the real-time monitoring and control functionality of the OSI monarch platform, this comprehensive EMS implementation will include advanced transmission management applications such as Real-time and Study Transmission Network Analysis, Equipment Outage Scheduling, Voltage Stability Analysis, Transmission Operator Training Simulator, and Short-Term Load Forecast, as well as CHRONUS™, OSI's next-generation time series-based data historian.

"OSI is honored to have been selected by Powerlink to provide the cornerstone technology to help them implement adaptive network operations," said Dan Candotti, OSI's senior director of operations for Australia/New Zealand. "Transmission operators all over the world are increasingly faced with managing networks of greater complexity and challenges arising from the ever-changing impact of distributed energy resources (DER) on stability and security, necessitating more advanced automation, analytics, and optimization technologies. OSI's commitment to Powerlink is to deliver the greatest success for this key project."

Powerlink Queensland (www.powerlink.com.au) is a leading Australian provider of high-voltage electricity transmission network services. It delivers electricity to more than four million Queenslanders across its 1,700-kilometer transmission network, providing network connections for large-scale generators and major industrial customers including rail systems, mines, and mineral processing facilities.

Open Systems International (www.osii.com)—an American technology company headquartered in Minneapolis, Minnesota—provides open, state-of-the-art and high-performance enterprise automation solutions to utilities worldwide. These solutions include Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems, Energy Management Systems (EMS), Distribution Management Systems (DMS), Outage Management Systems (OMS), Generation Management Systems (GMS), Substation Automation (SA) Systems, Data Warehousing (Historian) Analytics, Distributed Energy Resource Management Systems (DERMS), Situational Awareness Systems, Pipeline Application Systems (PAS), individual software and hardware products, and Smart Grid solutions for utility operations.
