Farmington Electric Utility System of New Mexico Awards OSI a Contract to Comprehensively Upgrade its Energy Management System

Open Systems International, Inc. (OSI) has recently been awarded a contract by Farmington Electric Utility System (FEUS) of New Mexico to implement an extensive upgrade to its existing OSI Energy Management System (EMS).

FEUS, who has been an OSI customer since 1995, is upgrading a UNIX based EMS with a state-of-the-art Windows® based system. The proposed system is based on OSI's distributed and open monarch™ architecture and includes Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition, Historical Archiving, and both Trending and Calculation capabilities. In addition to this functionality, FEUS is including many advanced applications such as Generation Control, Transaction Scheduling, Network Analysis, Unit Commitment, and Load Forecasting. The system will also feature a web-based user interface and will utilize ICCP communications protocol.

FEUS opted for a Windows based system due to ease of use and lower cost of maintenance. The decision to migrate to a new platform was made easier based on OSI's history with multiple operating systems and the reputation that OSI has built in the marketplace which provides FEUS the confidence that the transition will have minimal operating impact.

According to Bahman Hoveida, OSI President and CEO, "The greatest compliment a business can receive is repeat business. OSI and FEUS have enjoyed a strong commitment to the partnership and have invested in each other's success."

"OSI has demonstrated a commitment to their historical processes while continuing to lead the SCADA industry into new technology and applications. FEUS places the utmost confidence not only in the products that OSI develops, but the people of OSI who make it possible. We are proud to continue the partnership with OSI," said Alan Glazner, FEUS System Control Operations.
