OSI Wins SCADA System Contract for Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority's Palo Seco Power Plant

Open Systems International, Inc. (OSI) has been awarded a contact to supply a SCADA System for the Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority's (PREPA) Palo Seco Power Plant. The award is part of the construction of a large indoor gas-insulated switchgear (GIS) substation and a 115/38KV GIS transmission center that will help meet the increasing demand for energy on the Caribbean island of Puerto Rico.

The prime contractor for this substation project is ABB T&D (www.abb.com). Microsol Inc. (www.microsol.com) is the supplier of the automation control system for the project which includes the integration of over 100 protective relays and IEDs, hardwired I/O modules, a redundant substation Local Area Network, and a projection wall display. The OSI monarch™ distributed SCADA system will serve as the Master Station control system for this very large substation.

The proposed OSI project includes Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition, Historical Information Archiving, Calculation and Trending subsystems, and a web-based user interface. The Unix-based system will use the Sun Solaris™ platform.
