Corn Belt Energy of Illinois Joins the OSI Family of SCADA Users

Open Systems International, Inc. (OSI) has recently completed the installation of a SCADA System at Corn Belt Energy Corporation of Bloomington, Illinois, a Wabash Valley Power Association member.

In 2004 Corn Belt Energy began to review the need to replace a legacy system with an architecture that provided the flexibility and expansion potential to meet their emerging needs. Corn Belt found that the OSI monarch™ platform provided the required capability. The project includes a redundant system with remote consoles and incorporates 40 Remote Terminal Units which communicate over an 800MHz radio system. The system will use an IP-based Satellite Wide Area Network backbone to communicate with the Wabash Valley Power Association central Energy Management System and will support DNP over IP as well as a web-enabled Operator User Interface System.

Corn Belt Energy Corporation (www.cornbeltenergy.com) was established in 1938 through a Rural Electrification Administration (REA) project. Since its inception, Corn Belt Energy has grown to provide energy products to approximately 30,000 members throughout 18 central Illinois counties, using over 5,000 miles of distribution lines.
