Open Systems International, Inc. (OSI) has recently been awarded a contract by N.W. Electric Power Cooperative, Inc. (NWEPC) in Cameron, Missouri to implement a Linux-Based SCADA system. The project, which encompasses NWEPC and their seven (7) member cooperatives, will allow NWEPC to integrate a variety of SCADA equipment into one cohesive system.
The proposed system, based on OSI's distributed and open monarch™ architecture, will interface with a Cannon Yukon™ system to capture real-time data and issue control requests. The implementation will also include OSI's OpenJava+™ product, a Web-based Graphical User Interface that will provide NWEPC's member cooperatives access to the SCADA database via a web browser. A unique feature that will be utilized in this project is the ability to not only view real-time displays via the web interface, but to also perform secure control operations. This ability will provide substantial cost savings to the member cooperatives and present the members with greater access to critical real-time data.
