Open Systems International, Inc. (OSI), an industry leader providing open and high-performance automation solutions to electric utilities worldwide, has recently been awarded a contract to supply a new SCADA, Energy Management System (EMS) and ERCOT Market Operation System (MOS) for the City of Garland, Texas (GP&L) based on OSI's monarch™ architecture.
GP&L's new Energy Management and Market Operation Systems will allow GP&L to effectively monitor and operate its transmission, generation and distribution assets and optimally participate in the ERCOT market.
The proposed system is based on a distributed open architecture and includes Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition, ERCOT Market Interfaces, ICCP Data Communications, Automatic Generation Control and Economic Dispatch, and Transmission Network Security Analysis applications, as well as a Disaster Recovery/ Emergency backup functionality for a remote operation site. The system is based on the Microsoft® Windows® operating system and Microsoft® SQL Server™ database management system. Based on a fast track implementation strategy, the system is scheduled to be put into operation six (6) months after contract award.
