Leading Wholesale Marketer of Power Selects OSI's Internet-based Generation Management System

Open Systems International, Inc. (OSI), an industry leader providing open and high-performance automation solutions to electric utilities worldwide, announces that El Paso Merchant Energy has chosen OSI for installation of a Generation Management System (GMS).

Due to its simplicity, technical superiority and upgrade capabilities, El Paso Corporation's Merchant Energy Group (EPME) chose OSI's monarch™ GMS platform for its Generation management needs. The system includes a Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition via IP based DNP remote terminal units, Automatic Generation Control and Dispatch, Interchange Transaction Management, as well as capability for communication with the NEPOOL and PJM power pools. EPME's system is based on the Windows® 2000 operating system and Microsoft® SQL Server database management system. The system will be installed and ready for operation in late June 2001.

In the interim and prior to final system deployment, EPME has been a subscriber to OSI's e-scada asset monitoring services. e-scada is the industry's first Internet based SCADA service. This service will allow EPME to monitor its numerous remote generation assets throughout the United States using LAN-based RTU technology, and communicating via the public Internet. e-scada requires little or no additional hardware or software on client machines, other than a standard Internet browser, allowing EPME an extremely rapid, hassle-free and maintenance-free solution to their interim generation management needs.
