Open Systems International, Inc. (OSI) announced that NRG Energy, Inc., (NRG) headquartered in Minneapolis, MN, has chosen OSI, also based in Minneapolis, for implementation of a Generation Management System (GMS). After much research and evaluation of the market NRG chose OSI's monarch platform due to its technical superiority, openness, flexibility, and fast track implementation schedule.
The system includes Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition via IP based DNP Remote Terminal Units (RTU), Automatic Generation Control and Economic Dispatch, Transaction Management, Historical Archiving and Energy Accounting, as well as communication with the PJM power pool. The system is based on the Windows® 2000 operating system and Microsoft SQL database management system. NRG would receive the system in record time, within 5 weeks of order.
