OSI Implements Fast Track Generation Management System for Southern Energy

Open Systems International, Inc. (OSI), an industry leader providing open and high-performance automation solutions to electric utilities worldwide, announces that Southern Energy Inc. [NYSE: SOE] has chosen OSI for implementation of a Generation Management System (GMS).

Southern Energy selected OSI's monarch™ GMS platform due to its technical superiority, ease of use, and a fast track implementation schedule. This system is to be delivered to Southern Energy within 30 days of receipt of order and will be put into operation shortly afterwards. The system includes Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition via IP based DNP Remote Terminal Units, Generation Control and Dispatch, Transaction Scheduling, and Energy Accounting, as well as communication with the PJM power pool. The system is based on the Windows® 2000 operating system and Oracle® database management system.

"The partnership approach both companies adopted, along with our standard product, allows the successful execution of this fast track project," said Dennis Morrison, Principle Consultant for OSI. "In my 30 years in the industry, this is the first time that a system of this scale and magnitude has been purchased, configured, tested, and is to be shipped within 30 days!"

"Our successful relationship with OSI is based upon their quick delivery and installation of the platform enabling us to operate seamlessly in today's changing market," said Bob McClure, Chief Information Officer, Southern Energy. "The architecture of the system should allow Southern Energy to have additional controls and monitor locations that were previously not cost effective for the company in the past."
