One of India's Largest Transmission Companies, OPTCL Selects OSI Technology for New SCADA/EMS Project

Open Systems International, Inc. (OSI) and its Indian partner, Chemtrols Industries Ltd. have been awarded a new contract by the Orissa Power Transmission Corporation Limited (OPTCL), to expand their existing operations with a state-of-the-art new SCADA/EMS system based on OSI's next-generation monarch™ (Multi-platform Open Network ARCHitecture) technology, as part of a larger Unified Load Dispatch and Communication (ULDC) expansion project.

OPTCL is one of the largest transmission utilities in India, responsible for the transmission and wheeling of electricity in the state of Orissa and operating more than 9500 kilometers of transmission lines at 400kV, 220kV and 132kV levels. The objective of this project is modernization of control systems for an ever-growing critical transmission network. The project will include a primary SCADA/EMS for the main State Load Dispatch Center (SLDC) and a backup SCADA/EMS for the disaster recovery SLDC.

These new main and backup systems for OPTCL will include the advanced functionality of OSI's next-generation, .NET based Graphical User Interface; Dynamic Tabular Display Subsystem; Advanced Alarm Management System; Real-time and Historical Trending; Supervisory Control & Data Acquisition; Communications Front-end Processor; Historical Information System and Data Archiving; Inter-control Center Communications Protocol; Historical Recording System; Calculation & Scripting Subsystem; Electronic Operator Logging System; Disturbance Data Collection; Load Shed and Restoration; Short-Term Load Forecasting; Operating Plan Creation and Publishing; Network Security Analysis; Operator Training Simulator; Common Information Model Interface; and Equipment Outage Scheduler software products.

OPTCL (www.optcl.co.in), one of the largest transmission utilities in India was incorporated in March 2004 under the Companies Act, 1956 as a company wholly owned by the Government of Orissa to undertake the business of transmission and wheeling of electricity in the State.
