Nebraska's Largest Electric Utility Selects OSI Technology for New Energy Management System

Open Systems International, Inc. (OSI) has been selected by Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD), Nebraska's largest electric utility, to supply a state-of-the-art new SCADA/EMS system based on OSI's monarch™ platform.

This new SCADA/EMS system is based on OSI's monarch platform and includes OSI's next-generation, .NET based Graphical User Interface (GUI); Remote Console GUI; Dynamic Tabular Display Subsystem; Data Engineering and Maintenance Subsystem; Advanced Alarm Management System; Real-time and Historical Trending; Communications Front-end Processor; Historical Information System and Data Archiving; Inter-control Center Communications Protocol; Calculation & Scripting Subsystem; Load Shed and Restoration; Automatic Generation Control and Dispatch; Market Operations System; and Network Security Analysis software including State Estimation and Contingency Analysis functions, as well as a comprehensive Operator Training Simulator for realistic simulation of the transmission network.

NPPD (www.nppd.com) serves the total wholesale power requirements of 25 public power districts and rural cooperatives, 50 municipal customers and two partial requirements municipal customers in Nebraska. This means that power is generated at NPPD's generating facilities and is moved across miles of transmission lines to wholesale customer located throughout the state. These wholesale distributors then distribute the power to end-use customers. More than 70 percent of NPPD's revenues are derived through wholesale power agreements. NPPD also serves approximately 89,000 customers at the retail level.
