North Distribution Division of Mexico's Comisión Federal de Electricidad Selects OSI Technology for a New Unified Distribution SCADA System

Open Systems International, Inc. (OSI) and partner Automatización y Tecnología Mexicana SA de CV (Atemex) have been awarded a contract by División de Distribución Norte of Comisión Federal de Electricidad (CFE)—headquartered in Gomez Palacio, in the state of Durango, Mexico—to supply a modern and centralized SCADA system based on OSI's monarch™ (Multi-platform Open Network ARCHitecture) platform. This system will establish the groundwork for future Distribution Management System (DMS) capabilities.

CFE's new OSI SCADA system will replace and consolidate two other legacy systems, providing optimized monitoring and control with a single system capable of controlling two operational zones of División de Distribución Norte. It will handle more than 660,000 customers and serves as a first step toward providing the North Division with a truly modern and scalable system for the operation of the distribution network.

The new system will include OSI's advanced Graphical User Interface, Communications Front-end Processor, Real-time and Historical Trending, Data Engineering and Maintenance Subsystem, Historical Information System and Data Archiving, Advanced Alarm Management System, Inter-control Center Communications Protocol, and ODBC Interface.

Comisión Federal de Electricidad (www.cfe.gob.mx) is a Mexican public corporation and government agency, responsible for the control and development of the nation's entire electric industry. CFE generates, distributes and markets electric power for more than 40 million customers. División de Distribución Norte is part of CFE Distribution.
