OSI Welcomes Trump Administration's New National Cyber Strategy

Codifying a renewed effort to fortify the United States' cyber security posture, the Trump Administration has released its National Cyber Strategy, a 26-page document detailing four strategic pillars:

- Protect the American people, the homeland, and the American way of life by securing federal networks and information, securing critical infrastructure, combating cybercrime, and improving incident reporting.
- Promote American prosperity by fostering a vibrant and resilient digital economy, protecting U.S. ingenuity, and developing a superior cybersecurity workforce.
- Preserve peace through strength: enhance cyber stability through norms of responsible state behavior while attributing and deterring unacceptable behavior in cyberspace.
- Advance American influence by promoting an open, interoperable, reliable, and secure internet; and build international cyber capacity.

OSI fully support this strategy, particularly as it relates to promoting and developing a robust domestic technology industry and discontinuing the use of vulnerable or risky foreign-made technologies, products, services, and processes in order to better enhance our critical infrastructure protection in the utility sector. According to the administration, this cyber strategy will "ensure the American people continue to reap the benefits of a secure cyberspace that reflects our principles, protects our security, and promotes our prosperity." OSI views the administration's heightened security stance as a sign of welcome progress in the cyber security space, especially as it relates to critical utility automation systems.

"Regardless of one's political outlook, all U.S. citizens and utility organizations should view this renewed emphasis on strengthening cyber security measures as a positive effort," said OSI CEO Bahman Hoveida. "The cyber threats facing the utility industry, in particular, cannot be overstated, nor can their potentially catastrophic consequences be ignored. Any initiatives designed to effectively combat them should be embraced fully. As an American company, and one of the few organizations that develops its products solely in the United States under strict security guidelines, we welcome the emphasis placed on indigenous American technologies."

"OSI has always maintained a very rigid cyber security posture. The same cannot be said of many other operational technology (OT) solution providers who design, develop, and maintain their solutions in foreign locations within the realm of influence of U.S. geopolitical rivals such as Russia and China, or in other non-friendly countries. By contrast, OSI's solutions are uniquely American: designed, developed, implemented, and supported strictly in the United States with no outsourcing or offshoring used at any stage of development or deployment. We take pride in continuing to serve as a benchmark for cyber security in the operational technology industry and offering peace of mind to utility clients concerned about the pedigree of their solutions and their associated supply chain risks."
