OSI is Awarded a Contract by the Eugene Water & Electric Board for a New SCADA System

Open Systems International, Inc. (OSI) has been awarded a contract by the Eugene Water & Electric Board (EWEB) of Eugene, Oregon, for a new comprehensive SCADA system.

EWEB is Oregon's largest customer-owned utility and provides electricity, water and steam to more than 86,000 homes, businesses, schools and other customers. For nearly 30 years, the utility has been a national leader in promoting strong and innovative conservation programs, and has received numerous awards for its efforts.

As an innovative and progressive utility, EWEB has chosen OSI's state-of-the-art technology due to its modern and flexible control system architecture, which better facilitates future upgrades of hardware and software, NERC Cyber Security requirements and offers a lower recurring maintenance cost. OSI's monarch™ system will replace the company's aging Siemens/Telegyr SCADA system.

The proposed system is based on OSI's innovative monarch distributed open architecture and includes Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition, Historical Information System, Calculation and Trending subsystem, Load Shed Restoration and Disturbance Data Collection, as well as ICCP and DNP communications. The system also includes the provision for Control Area monitoring and a full Generation Control and Dispatch implementation in a latter phase, once EWEB becomes an independent control area.

The Eugene Water & Electric Board (www.eweb.org), founded in 1911, serves approximately 86,000 customers covering over 235 square miles throughout Oregon. The public utility offers an array of programs that help customers save energy and water, as well as products that use resources that are renewable, sustainable and have a minimal impact on the environment.
