OSI Adopts a "Buy American" Initiative to Contribute to the Economic Recovery

Open Systems International, Inc. (OSI) has adopted a "Buy American" first initiative across its operations to ensure all of its suppliers use components that are manufactured in the United States.

The economic downturn has impacted companies across the nation, with the Utility industry being no exception. As capital budgets become increasingly difficult to obtain, many Utilities are eagerly awaiting federally funded dollars to be delivered by state governments. This capital will provide Utilities with the funding resources required to create a twenty-first century power grid.

Newly funded initiatives will require human resources as well. As technology unemployment exceeds 10 percent in some parts of the United States, OSI is committed to working with companies who employ US workers and fully intend to hire more in efforts to further the gains already being made in the energy sector.

As an American company and a net exporter, OSI holds a keen responsibility; it must do its share to help stimulate the US economy. By dealing primarily with American suppliers and subcontractors and meticulously analyzing every component that ultimately combines to create its unmatched automation systems, OSI stands beside constituents who prefer the use of American suppliers as well as the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), which includes a Buy American provision.

"As one of the last bastions of USA technology in the field of utility automation dominated by foreign suppliers, we have always avoided outsourcing our technology development to foreign companies and off shoring entities and have constantly promoted a philosophy of having maximum American content in our products. The motivation in the past has been based on the Quality and Security of supply as well as NERC Cyber Security considerations. With the economic downturn, we now see an even more significant purpose to 'Buy American'," said Brian Rasefske, OSI Vice President of Engineering and Development.
