East Kentucky Power Cooperative Awards New SCADA/EMS System Contract to OSI

Open Systems International, Inc. (OSI) has been awarded a new contract by East Kentucky Power Cooperative (EKPC) to replace and upgrade its legacy SCADA/EMS system with OSI's monarch™ (Multi-platform Open Network ARCHitecture) technology.

Headquartered in Winchester, KY (near Lexington, KY), EKPC is a not-for-profit, generation and transmission utility, providing wholesale energy services to its 16 member distribution cooperatives, through power plants, peaking units, hydro power and across more than 2,900 miles of transmission lines.

In an effort to upgrade and modernize their expansive membership cooperatives' generation and transmission infrastructure, EKPC has elected to replace their existing SCADA/EMS system, with OSI's industry-leading monarch platform. The new SCADA/EMS system will be based on OSI's next-generation Microsoft .NET based Graphical User Interface (GUI) and will include several of OSI's advanced application products for transmission and generation control.

Denver York, EKPC's Vice President of System Operations and Power Delivery, said "We are excited about working with OSI and implementing this new EMS system. The OSI monarch system will give us more modern tools and applications that will enable us to continue to meet EKPC's objective to deliver affordable, reliable power to its 16 member systems."

"We welcome EKPC to our family of monarch users. We are very grateful and pleased that EKPC has chosen OSI from a group of very fine companies, to supply its next generation EMS platform and we will do our best to ensure a very successful project implementation," said Bahman Hoveida, President and CEO of OSI.

EKPC (www.ekpc.coop) is a not-for-profit organization providing wholesale electricity to 16 distribution cooperatives that serve 500,000 Kentucky homes, farms, business and industries across 87 counties. EKPC provides power through plants located in Mason, Clark and Pulaski counties, renewable energy plants in Boone, Laurel, Greenup, Hardin, Mason and Pendleton counties, along with gas peaking units, hydro power and more than 2,900 miles of transmission lines. Nearly 8 percent of EKPC's generating capacity comes from renewable sources. Together, EKPC and the member cooperatives are known as Kentucky's Touchstone Energy Cooperatives.
