OSI Launches a Next Generation Distribution Outage Management System (OMS) on Big Data Platform

Open Systems International, Inc. (OSI) is pleased to announce the launch of Spectra OMS™, a next-generation Distribution Outage Management System with advanced Big Data architecture, user interface and customer communications capabilities.

Outage Management is an increasingly critical part of the distribution utility system operations. Today's utilities are faced with ever greater demands for timely and accurate outage information delivered to customers and other stakeholders via their desired communication channels such as website, social media, smart phones, etc. Many utilities have struggled with functionality and integration challenges of existing OMS solutions. In addition, more frequent and severe storms have highlighted the need for fundamental improvements in performance, scalability and availability of OMS solutions.

Spectra OMS is a next generation, state-of-the-art outage management solution that empowers utilities to better manage all areas of their outage restoration processes, minimize their outage response times, keep customers, management and regulators well-informed about the scope, status and forecast of outage restoration efforts, as well as to improve overall system reliability and customer service. Spectra OMS equips utilities with a solution that enables them to efficiently and effectively assign work to field crews and to improve resource utilization and productivity.

Spectra OMS has been designed from the ground up to support the needs of modern utilities. Its architecture utilizes the latest in web, "Big Data" and mobile technologies to provide the highest performance for very large installations and the highest availability, scalability and security, while leveraging commodity hardware. The advanced outage analysis module of Spectra OMS enables it to handle very large networks during storms using an innovative parallel processing approach. In addition, Spectra OMS provides integrated business intelligence and reporting capabilities including tracking reliability indices such as SAIDI, SAIFI and CAIDI, as well as efficient standards based integration capability with many other utility systems such as GIS, CIS, IVR and AMI. The Spectra OMS solution has been deployed in the field with great user acceptance.

Spectra OMS can be used standalone or integrated with OSI's Distribution Management System (Spectra DMS™) to provide an Advanced Distribution Management System (ADMS) platform. The OSI Spectra™ suite of products support cloud architecture and can be implemented as hosted Software as a Service (SaaS) or staged solutions.
