Muscatine Power and Water of Iowa Awards OSI a Contract to Supply a Comprehensive Linux-based SCADA/EMS System for Monitoring and Control of Electric and Water Assets

Open Systems International, Inc. (OSI) has recently been awarded a contract by Muscatine Power and Water (MP&W) of Iowa to supply a replacement Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition and Energy Management System (SCADA/EMS). The system will be used to monitor and control MP&W's Electric and Water network.

The system, which will be based on OSI's monarch™ distributed open architecture and will run on the Linux operating system, will include Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition, Historical Archiving, Calculation and Trending capabilities. The Generation scheduling and control applications will incorporate Automatic Generation Control, Unit Commitment, and Transaction Evaluation. In addition, a standalone Development System, ICCP Communications and interfaces to the Midwest ISO are included. The fully redundant system is co-located at multiple geographical sites to provide Disaster Recovery in case of emergencies.

MP&W owns and operates three coal-fired boilers and four generating units.
