Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro Awards OSI a Major Contract to Supply an Energy Management System and a Hydro Plant SCADA System

Open Systems International, Inc. (OSI) has recently been awarded a combined contract by Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro (NLH) and Churchill Falls Labrador Corporation LTD (CF(L)Co) to implement an Energy Management System (EMS) for Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro and a SCADA system for the Churchill Falls Hydro Generating Station, the world's largest underground hydro project. The organizations, which operate under the umbrella of the Hydro Group of Companies, are responsible for the majority of generation and transmission in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada.

The NLH EMS system will be based on OSI's monarch™ distributed open architecture and includes Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition, Generation Control and Dispatch, Network Security Analysis, Historical Data Archiving, Operator Training Simulator, and Hydro Scheduling. The NLH EMS will be responsible for control, monitoring and dispatch of NLH transmission and generation assets.

The CF(L)Co SCADA system will be based on the same monarch technology and includes Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition, Historical Data Archiving, Operator Training Simulator, and Hydro Generation Dispatch. This system will be responsible for control, monitoring and dispatch of Churchill Falls Hydro Generating Station.

"We are very pleased to have been entrusted by NLH and CF(L)Co to supply their system automation needs and we welcome them both to our family of monarch users. We are ready to do our utmost to make this project as successful as our other projects. Furthermore, we have developed a special bond with the province of Newfoundland and Labrador and we intend to help the local economy by implementing a portion of the work using excellent local engineering resources," said Bahman Hoveida, President and CEO of OSI.

"We're confident that the OSI system will meet our needs," said Bill Wells, President and CEO. "This project is a significant investment and will allow us to continue to provide reliable energy to our customers."
