ElectriCities of North Carolina Selects OSI to Supply a New SCADA and Energy Metering System

Open Systems International, Inc. (OSI), an industry leader providing open and high-performance automation solutions to electric utilities worldwide, has recently been awarded a contract to supply a SCADA and Energy Metering System to the North Carolina Municipal Power Agency Number 1, an agency of ElectriCities of North Carolina.

The system includes a real-time communications interface direct to solid state metering using the DNP3.0 protocol, SCADA functionality, Historical Information Management, and Energy Accounting. The system is based on the Microsoft® Windows 2000 platform with the primary and backup master stations located at two (2) geographically separated sites connected via a Wide Area Network. Meters are connected via a Frame Relay Network to the SCADA system.

The system is scheduled to be delivered four (4) months after contract award date and commissioned six (6) months after the contract award.

North Carolina Municipal Power Agency Number 1 has an ownership interest in generating facilities in North Carolina and distributes this power to 19 cities/municipalities in the piedmont and western part of the state.
